WHERE IT BEGAN

Travellers Through Grief → Grief Talks → Brave Talks

Brave Talks began with a personal journey through grief. What started as Travellers Through Grief, a personal Instagram journal created after Reka lost her partner, became Grief Talks - a space for conversations around grief, loss and death - and eventually grew into Brave Talks, a broader initiative exploring the difficult, meaningful and deeply human subjects we often avoid talking about.

About the Film

The Farewell (2019) follows a Chinese-American family who return to China after learning that their beloved grandmother has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. As they come together under the guise of a family wedding, they face questions of love, cultural difference, truth, and how we choose to say goodbye.

How We Hold Space

Sunlit Empty Room

We don't come here to fix each other.
We come here to listen.

Brave Talks is a space for conversation, reflection and connection.

You can speak, listen, ask questions, or simply be present - there is no pressure to share.

We speak from our own experience, listen without judgement, and make room for perspectives that may be different from our own. There are no right or wrong answers, and no unsolicited advice about what someone should feel, think or do.

Speak from your experience

Share what is true for you, without speaking for someone else.

Listen without fixing

You don't need to have an answer. Sometimes being heard is enough.

Meet people where they are

We don't all arrive in the same place. Everyone moves through their own journey, in their own time, and shares only what feels right for them.

No pressure to share

You can speak, listen, or simply be present. Participation is always voluntary.

Make room for difference

We can disagree, ask questions and see things differently without dismissing one another.

Not Therapy

Brave Talks is a community space, not therapy or counselling.

We don't diagnose, treat or provide individual therapeutic care through our events. Our events create space for conversation, reflection and connection. They do not provide diagnosis, treatment, crisis support or individual therapeutic care.

We create space to sit with difficult experiences, reflect, listen and connect. If a conversation brings up something that feels difficult to hold on your own, professional support may be appropriate.

At Brave Talks, Reka and Loredana participate as co-founders and facilitators. Their professional roles and services outside Brave Talks are separate from the community conversations we create here. Brave Talks is not an emergency or crisis service.

If you need immediate support, please contact an appropriate emergency or mental health service.

Some conversations deserve more space.

Brave Talks is a community-led platform using films, conversations and gatherings around difficult, meaningful subjects.

We believe that talking about what can feel uncomfortable - grief, death, mental health, trauma, addiction, relationships, identity and belonging - can help us understand ourselves and each other a little better.

Through films, conversations, talks and community gatherings, we bring different experiences and perspectives into the same room.

Conversations in different languages.
Brave Talks brings people together through conversations in English, Romanian and Hungarian, with events taking place in the language that best fits the topic, speakers and community.

The Co-Founders

Reka is a Grief Companion and End-of-Life Doula. She is dedicated to creating safe, compassionate spaces for those navigating the complexities of loss and the end of life. Her work is rooted in active listening and the profound importance of presence.

I believe there are few things more important than having the courage to witness each other’s lives - our pain, our joy, our loss and, ultimately, our dying. Having experienced profound loss myself, I know how powerful it can be to be truly seen and heard, and what a privilege it is to humbly receive someone’s story. I believe we need to practise this as a community: creating spaces where grief, death and the stories that shape us can be spoken about openly, compassionately and without fear.

Loredana is a psychotherapist specializing in complex trauma, addictions, and codependency. She brings a deep understanding of the human psyche to our community, fostering an environment of intellectual curiosity and emotional intelligence.

I want Brave Talks to be a space where we can truly meet each other - openly, honestly and without judgement.
And together, find the courage to explore the conversations we so often avoid - topics like addiction, codependent relationships, grief, death, and everything in between.
